Do I need a bachelor's degree to earn a master's degree?
Yes. A bachelor's degree is required for admission to a master's program. Additional admission requirements, including GPA, professional experience or prerequisite coursework, vary by program.
Are CMU's online master's degrees completely online?
Many are, but requirements vary by program. Some programs may include internships, practicums, clinical experiences or other requirements completed in your community. For example, the online Counseling program includes required practicum and internship experiences. Review your individual program requirements before applying.
Can I work full time while earning my graduate degree?
Many CMU Online graduate programs are designed for working professionals. Depending on the program, you may have full- and part-time options or flexible course schedules that help you balance work, school and life.
How long does it take to earn an online master's degree?
It depends on the program, its credit requirements and how many courses you take at a time. Requirements vary considerably. For example, Higher Education Administration and Social Justice requires 30 credits, while Counseling requires 60.
Can previous graduate credits count toward my degree?
Possibly. Transfer credit policies vary by program. Some programs may also recognize eligible professional credentials or certifications. For example, Educational Leadership allows eligible students to apply certain previously earned administrator certification credits toward the degree.

Can I walk at commencement?
Absolutely! As a CMU Online student, you're a CMU student. You're invited to walk at graduation, cross the stage and celebrate your achievement alongside other CMU graduates. Whether you complete your degree online or on campus, you earn the same CMU degree and are part of the same academic community.
